Biography

It seems that male singer/songwriters are a dime a dozen these days. Some are successful (John Mayer, David Gray) and others are still struggling to get noticed (Ben Lee, Ben Folds), but few really stand out from the pack. Brett Milan Gajda is one who does. He blends the eclecticism of his influences into a cohesive sound perhaps best described as 'Highly Melodic, Emotionally Soaked, Singer/Songwriter, Pop/Rock/Folk'.

On his debut record, Twenty Love, Brett's songwriting and sound have a maturity to them that suggests he is many albums into his career. His debut album has been described as "that rarity among first albums: fully realized, confidently sung and played, and a pleasure to listen to". Build around the strength and passion of his voice and acoustic guitar, Twenty Love is a fully textured experience, incorporating deftly placed harmonies, varied instrumentation, and a Beatles-esque production.

Hailing from Toronto (well Mississauga, actually), Brett became a San Francisco resident in 1996. He began singing at a very young age, and ever since it has been truth for him. He played in bands from his late teens to early twenties, and then made a move to San Francisco. Though he never stopped playing behind closed doors and around campfires globally, songwriting took a backseat to other pursuits (travel, writing, painting SF red) until the muse returned. "Music either comes to me or it doesn't", Brett has said. Twenty Love is the highly melodic result of that muse's return.

A self-proclaimed singer first, guitarist by necessity, Brett's goal is for his songs to crawl inside of the listener, and awaken the emotions within. "I want to encourage people to feel, to think, and to question. What? Whatever a songs brings up in them." One fan recently said, "Brett's songs come from the heart and in turn make me look into my own. I find myself listening to his music over and over, and never getting tired of the lyrics. Each time I listen to the album, I reflect on my past, current and ultimate future relationships. Twenty Love soothes my soul and lifts my spirits about that thing they call love."

Live he has been described as having a "brilliant connection with his audience, fostered with quick wit and humor". He displays a confident comfort with himself and his music in front of an audience, and has an open and engaging presence that leaves his audience feeling like they are good friends.

When he is not playing music, Brett can be founding spreading positive vibrations through many other means and mediums. He facilitates seminars with people all over the US and Canada, supporting them in taking on their own dreams, and stepping into their greatness. He is the Chief Spirit Officer for City of Dreams [a non-profit organization which mentors youth at risk throughout the San Francisco Bay Area]. And he is currently working on two books – his first novel, and a memoir looking at the emotional thread of his first love and his father’s death over a 15 year period.
